This is a picture of a painful corn on the fifth toe. This would be gently removed and a dressing placed over the area for a day until it is healed. A device will then be made to relieve pressure from the area. Corns and callous form when the foot is subjected to abnormal levels of pressure during the walking cycle. This may be due to poor footwear or abnormal mechanics in the foot.

Verrucae are a result of a viral infection in the skin. This virus thrives in damp conditions, so is therefore commonly picked up in places like communal changing areas at the swimming pools and gyms. Verrucae are treated in a number of different ways, such as applying lotions or ointments that contain strong acids to eradicate the virus. Freezing with liquid nitrogen is also available at the clinic; which is often a quick effective treatment.
Gentle treatments are also available in the form of homeopathic podiatry.

A common complaint often seen by podiatrists are bunions( hallux valgus). This is the condition where the big toe curves towards the rest of the toes often causing painful corns or callus that can be treated by your podiatrist.
Some people have a genetic predisposition to bunions, caused by the way we walk. This problem can be helped by your podiatrist by having an orthotic prescribed. This is a device that helps to realign the bones in the foot and allowing them to function in their correct position during the walking cycle.

Ingrowing toenails usually occurs on the big toe. The nail become embedded into the soft tissue at the side of the skin. If left it will cause pain and irritation and possibly infection.
The podiatrist will be able to remove the painful part of the nail, using a local anaesthetic if necessary.

Marigold therapy is an integral part of homeopathic podiatry. It is effective non-invasive treatment combing the healing powers of homeopathic medicine with an effective treatment for chronic and painful foot disorders. It is suitable for all groups including the elderly and at risk patients, such as diabetics.
